Case study - Freedom Leisure

Alliance Leisure developed the first public sector indoor tenpin bowling centre in 2006 at Hailsham Leisure Centre on behalf of Freedom Leisure Trust. The four court indoor sports hall was converted to a 6 lane boutique tenpin bowling facility with a children’s softplay and interactive area with café developed on the first floor. The facility has consistently out-performed projections converting an annual sports hall income of £70,000 into a new income stream in excess of £400,000.

The £1m investment was repaid on a monthly payment schedule for a 7 year period using Alliance’s finance contract. This allowed the Trust to ensure that income generated from the development covered the investment costs.

Such has been the success of this facility other local authorities have now explored similar business models. Read more about Slough Community Leisure or North Country Leisure’s bowling developments in our other case studies.
