Case study - Slough

In September 2010, Alliance Leisure in partnership with SCL (Slough Community Leisure) & SBC (Slough Borough Council), re-opened the Slough Tennis Centre site.

After considerable local consultation & a desire to increase the Trust’s current leisure offering, a Ten Pin Bowling Centre was the preferred option. As well as providing a family oriented activity that appealed to the wider community, it fulfilled a gap in the local market for bowling.

Research, market testing & analysis were carried out to ascertain what should be delivered & Alliance were presented the brief to convert the old indoor tennis facility. It was important to the Trust to give the feel & quality of a private members club & to create a visual & social experience for their customers.

Scope of work included converting a large old tennis centre into the following;

  • 18 lanes of ten pin
  • 4 VIP lanes
  • Café/bar area
  • Social community area
  • Games area for 8 pool tables & gaming machine
  • Reception & welcome points

The new facilities will generate sufficient funds to pay back the investment, including operational costs, within the next 6 years.

The total project cost was £1.7m, & was delivered on-budget & a week in advance of the deadline..

Alliance Leisure provided;

  • Funding & project management
  • Innovation to deliver commercial facilities that meet social & health agendas
  • Risk management
  • Project management & CDM-C
  • Design & building works
  • Equipment
