Sarah Watts

Chief Executive

Sarah Watts, Chief Executive of Alliance Leisure Services, has almost 30 years of experience in the leisure industry, both in public and private sectors. With a Leisure Management Degree from Loughborough, Sarah co-founded Alliance Leisure Services Ltd in 1999 and since then has been integral to the growth of the Company overseeing 90 developments, with a capital value in excess of £50 million. Sarah has also enjoyed sporting success, gaining international honours in judo and a black belt at the age of 14!

Paul Cluett

Managing Director

Since graduating in Sports Science, Paul has spent the last twenty-five years working as a consultant in the leisure industry across public and private sectors. Prior to joining Alliance, Paul was employed by Parkwood Leisure as Managing Director and was a principal consultant with Capita before joining Quality Leisure Management in 2004 as a Director.

In September 2008, he joined Alliance Leisure Services having acted for them over the previous 5 years. Paul is also a board member for CIMSPA. Paul keeps busy outside of work with his 3 children, his motorbike (in good weather) and playing pool (badly)!

Paul Woodford

Director of Marketing and Partnership

Paul Woodford is one of the leisure sectors top consultants, proven in Brand Development, Sales & Marketing and Customer Service Excellence.  Paul is Alliance’s Director of Marketing and Partnerships and has over 25 years leisure and hospitality experience.  As an innovative and creative marketer Paul has a passion that ranges from brand development, linking brand and marketing messages to empowered driven staff and exceptional customer experiences.  As a trainer and mentor Paul is known as one of the leisure sectors most motivating and impactful trainers, initiating positive change in all he works with.

James Foley

Commercial Director

James has over 20 years of management experience in the leisure industry and has directly led the project management and launch of over £50 million new leisure projects. He has previously worked as Operations Manager responsible for a large trust portfolio, and as an interim Director for the launch of a new sports stadium.  More recently, James has successfully consulted for a variety of local authorities and leisure trusts.   James is focused, determined and has a strong drive for perfection in helping to transform underperforming sites into thriving new leisure centres, and bringing better quality leisure facilities to local communities.   James admits the need to practice what he “used to” preach about fitness, but a young family at least helps to keep his fun activity levels high!

John Leaver

Head of Marketing

With nearly 20 years of experience in the leisure industry, John heads up the marketing team providing services to over 250 leisure centres across the UK. After graduating from Loughborough University with a BSc in Sports Science and Geography, John nearly became a teacher but instead joined the leisure industry.  Previously Regional Sales Manager for JJB Fitness Clubs, John’s initial roles were in the public sector with trusts and authorities around his home town of Blackburn.

He has a passion for developing the skills and knowledge of the staff and clients he works with and also enjoys continuously developing his own skills, recently in social media.  With a keen interest in technology and cars, John is also a proud Blackburn Rovers fan (but don’t hold that against him!).

Julia Goddard

Senior Business Development Manager

Julia has worked in the leisure industry for over 25 years and is particularly experienced in remodelling space and maximizing the commercial opportunities of facilities, having developed over £30m of investment utilizing the Alliance model. Julia is a highly motivated, multi-faceted member of the Alliance Leisure team with a wealth of experience of business planning and supporting clients through developments.   After gaining an Honours Degree in Sport and Leisure Management at UWIC, Julia worked in the public sector for over 15 years. She has experienced a variety of leisure roles, from lifeguard to duty manager in both wet and dry facilities, to a senior role within a large leisure trust with a portfolio of 13 facilities.

Julia joined Alliance in 2002 and has delivered over £30m of investment ranging from small fitness schemes to large leisure extensions.

Tom Fairey

Senior Business Development Manager

Tom has over 20 years of experience working in the leisure industry. Since joining  Alliance Leisure in 2011, he has overseen over £10m investment in leisure facility developments in the South East through the Alliance model.  Previously, Tom was Sales Director for GymKit UK and prior to this was senior Key Accounts Manager at Precor for 7 years where his main clients were Parkwood Leisure, DC Leisure and SLM.   It was there he learnt the importance of maximizing leisure space to generate revenue, having designed over 500 fitness areas for public leisure facilities. He has a passion for delivering outstanding customer service and innovative leisure, having started his career in operational roles with David Lloyd Leisure and Next Generation Clubs.

Gillian Dunster

Business Development Manager

Originally from Scotland but now based in Wales, Gillian graduated from SSPE in Glasgow with a BA in Sport and Communications.  She served as an apprentice fitness instructor in the Espree Club at Royal Mint Court before quickly moving into leisure management and subsequently sales and marketing with Barrett International Resorts and Reebok.  Gillian progressed to Group Sales Manager for the Viva Health Clubs and then Regional Sales Manager at Livingwell Health clubs.

Before taking a training position with Lifetime in 2010, Gillian worked in equipment sales on a national account manager basis, working with the likes of Leisure Connection and DC Leisure.  Having previously been involved with training and development of sales teams, she moved across to Lifetime Training where she set up and developed the national training programmes in sales, children’s fitness and hospitality. In 2013, Gillian joined the Alliance Leisure support division to cover the South Wales and South West England regions.  Her key role is sharing with her clients the experience she has amassed in sales, retention and marketing to ensure targets are met and surpassed.

Will Gardner

Business Development Manager

After completing his BSc Sports Science and Business Management Degree, Will joined Alliance in 2009.  Initially working as Impact Sales Manager across the country, he has progressed to Account Manager in the North West.  With a strong passion for sales and a great knowledge in every aspect of the sales process, Will’s proven track record for target attainment is something that he is most proud of. Will’s qualifications include being an NLP practitioner and ERCA High Ropes Instructor.  Outside of work Will enjoys travelling, attending the gym and playing rugby.

Sean Nolan

Business Development Manager

Sean has over 25 years of senior level leisure experience in the private, pubic and trust sectors. He has a unique mix of operational and business development knowledge in the development and management of a wide range of facilities including fitness clubs, leisure centres, ice rinks, stadia, theatres, golf courses, museums, galleries and heritage attractions. His previous roles include Contract Manager, Operations Director and Business Development Director, during which he has developed many new facilities ranging from small refurbishment projects to the development of large mixed use facilities.

Sean is a Fellow of CIMSPA and plays an active role in the Institutes affairs, previously being a Trustee of IMSPA and Chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Region, he is currently a member of the Audit and Probity Committee. He was a Quest Assessor for 10 years, assessing many facilities in the North and Midlands (he thinks it is over 100 but lost count!).

Outside of work Sean enjoys walking, cycling and visiting the gym as often as he can. He loves driving and travel and exploring new places. He is also passionate about music, motor racing, collecting records and going to events and concerts.

Tom Gardner

Business Development Manager

Initially working as an impact sales consultant, Tom consistently exceeded targets and helped to transform the services of Alliance Impact. Following his successes, Tom has progressed to managing the Impact sales team across the UK and prides himself in providing a fun, yet efficient service. As a young, enthusiastic individual Tom enjoys spending time with his friends & family, travelling to new countries, playing football and of course following his beloved Arsenal football club.

Ruth Doyle

Business Development Manager

Having worked for the last 20 years in the property sector Ruth has worked in many fields of the industry including account management, business development, and management.  Joining the Alliance team in 2017 Ruth has worked in both commercial and residential development alongside developers, builders, surveyors and architects, and has been instrumental in creating and maintaining strong client relationships.  With a passion for delivering excellent customer service she takes great pride in seeing a project through from initial thoughts to successful delivery.  Off duty Ruth enjoys time with her family and friends, and used to dance but now tends to practise yoga, mediation and mindfulness!

Jeremy Bradbury

Business Support Manager

Jeremy joined the Alliance team following 10 years in leisure management contracting at 1Life Management solutions where he held both Regional and Business Development Manager roles. Entering the leisure industry over 30 years ago Jeremy has worked in both the public and private sectors including roles as Finance Manager, Contract Manager, Business Development Manager and latterly moving to the South West in 1997 as Regional Director with PFP.

Jeremy has also worked with a number of local trusts and spent some time working for one of the leading leisure management contractors in Southern Ireland before joining 1Life in 2007.  Alongside these roles he is an active Quest Assessor.

Outside of work he spends time with his family particularly his two-year-old grandchild, with two more on the way!  Jeremy has a passion for following Somerset cricket and both local and premiership (at the moment!) football with Watford!

Amy Cluett

Assistant Project Support Manager

Amy joined the Alliance team from publisher Oxford University Press, her previous role as a Marketing Executive for science textbooks making this rather a large jump to leisure! Drawing on her marketing experience as well as the skills picked up during her Master’s degree, Amy now supports the business development team, and is busy learning everything she can about the leisure industry. Being the daughter of an aerobics teacher and a leisure consultant though, the industry really is in her blood!

Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending time with her family, watching as much sport as possible (particularly rugby, F1, cricket, and football), and going to the gym – honestly!
