The Benefits of Being Family-Friendly

Alliance Leisure has been developing leisure facilities and working with their staff and customers for over 20 years, and in recent years we have seen a marked trend in the requirements of the modern customer.

Sports and leisure centres are fast becoming community hubs popular with families with children seeking entertaining and inclusive ways to get moving, rather than the traditional family offering of sport, gym workouts, and exercise classes. It’s vital that leisure facilities meet customers’ changing needs, so it may be time to consider adding some more family-friendly elements to your centre.

Developing Your Offering With Us

Alliance Leisure develops indoor and outdoor leisure facilities on behalf of local authorities and leisure operators that want to improve or expand the leisure products and services they offer.  As a multi award-winning team for our design, build, fund and partnership services we have carried out over 160 leisure developments and overseen over £175m of investment in the UK leisure market.

Working with our expert partners, we specialise in creating spectacular, imaginative, and impactful leisure facilities in a variety of shapes and sizes, be that through the transformation of an existing centre or the creation of a brand new facility.

Opportunities

Take a look at just some of the options available for you when considering what to contain within your new centre.

TAGactive is an arena-based obstacle course for ages 8+ in which participants wearing sensors try to hit illuminated TAGs positioned around the course. Families can take part in TAGactive together, and it's a fantastic way of getting people active - at our Batley Sport and Tennis Centre site, players run an average of 616m per game!

Climbing boasts a host of health benefits including increased flexibility, co-ordination, and muscle strength. We work with trusted suppliers to provide entertaining and varied climbing walls that are suitable for all ages, like the ones in place in Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, which were also personalised to match the centre's branding.

Whether it's indoors or outside, play facilities involving water have proved a huge hit at developments we've implemented across the UK.

Waterparks, being an umbrella term for any facility involving water slides, fountains, or other built-in water features, provide an exciting addition to traditional swimming pools that can help to encourage families to get swimming together.

Splash pads can be situated in or outside facilities and are a fun way for people of all ages to get moving whilst interacting with a variety of entertaining water features.

Take a look at the enormously popular SC2, which features a waterpark and a splash pad, for inspiration.

The indoor adventure area means we have something new to offer the younger generation. A place where families can come together to enjoy physical activity. Youngsters need to be provided with spaces which enthuse and encourage movement. This investment has been committed to achieve just that.

ukactive Active Families Report

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic children’s activity levels were on the rise, but the mass disruption caused by the virus has led to a huge and alarming decline in their activity levels. 52% of 7-16 year olds have reported that they are doing less exercise than usual according to a Sport England survey.

More positively, the same report showed that 21% of these children were doing more physical activities with their families than they were before. The role of exercising as a family has the potential to provide an effective and enjoyable means of both children and adults increasing their activity levels. Alliance Leisure and ukactive wished to explore this potential, which led to the creation of the Active Families Report. Download the report for insights into the benefits of family activity, government strategies into this area, a detailed case study of a leisure facility providing an innovative physical activity solution, and more.
