Why Start from Scratch?

Building a new leisure centre may be necessary for a number of reasons. In the UK, it is estimated there are more than 2,720 ageing leisure centres, with many dating back to the 1970s. Whilst refurbishment is oftentimes a great way to repurpose existing facilities, there are many cases in which the centre is past its economic lifespan, the existing space isn’t suitable for the community’s requirements, or several aged leisure centres wish to combine to create a new, all-purpose facility.

It has never been more important for people in the UK to be healthy, yet staggering figures show us that, COVID-19 withstanding, we still face a health crisis. Sport England report that “one in three working age adults now live with a long-term health condition, predicted to rise to 40% by 2030”, and the NHS believes that one in four people in the UK are obese. With so many non-physical forms of entertainment out there, it is up to leisure centres to provide innovative, engaging facilities to entice people to raise their activity levels.

Opportunities

Take a look at just some of the options available for you when considering what to contain within your new centre.

According to Sport England, swimming is one of the most popular forms of physical activity in the UK, with around 4.7 million people swimming twice or more a month. Swimming pools therefore provide a great way for communities to get active, as well as a prudent income source for operators.

The breadth of the types of fitness classes available means that functional, versatile spaces are required to suit the needs of all users, with options to enhance safety and participant performance by adding features such as specially-adapted floors to reduce impact.

Another increasingly popular addition to modern leisure facilities are immersive studios, which provide a customisable and immensely impactful experience for visitors, often without the need for a physical instructor.

Supplementary food and beverage options can be an invaluable revenue-driving feature of leisure facilities.
Premium coffee outlets have become a high street staple, and an expectation of the modern consumer. Attaching such a premium offer to leisure facilities has been shown to increase revenue by up to 400%, as customers are attracted to high quality products and the opportunity to relax before or after their session, or whilst someone else enjoys the facilities.

There are a myriad benefits to soft play, but namely they can help children to develop imagination, social, and motor skills, all while completing substantial amounts of physical activity. We work with trusted soft play experts to provide imaginative and inventive soft play solutions for a variety of spaces and requirements.

Working multiple muscle groups and suitable for a wide range of ages, climbing offers a novel way of exercising with the added bonus of an extra revenue stream, making them a prudent addition to leisure facilities. We work with trusted partners Clip 'n Climb to create bespoke, attractive, and entertaining walls suited to all abilities.

TAGactive is an arena-based obstacle course for ages 8+, in which participants wearing sensors must try to hit illuminated TAGs positioned around the course. They are versatile, customisable, and suitable for all ages, and have seen astounding participation numbers at their sites across the world.

Wellness Hubs, or toning suites as they would have been called in the past, consisting of power-assisted equipment to provide a low-impact full body workout, provide a wealth of benefits to participants. Not only do they enable them to undertake achievable exercise in a safe space, but across all of the facilities in which we have installed them, strong and supportive communities are built up around the suites themselves. We work with our trusted partners at Innerva to deliver these hubs that have huge benefits for the active ageing.

UK Leisure Framework

The traditional time-consuming route to procurement is a thing of the past thanks to the UK Leisure Framework.

Alliance Leisure can be appointed directly for the Scoping, Design, Refurbishment, Construction and Development of indoor and outdoor projects via the UK Leisure Framework, along with the provision of sports, leisure, play and fitness equipment.
